DR. WILLIAM PRINCE

The first time I ever heard about
Bill was
from one of his students at FAU, where he taught. I couldn't believe the
things this young man said about Dr. Prince, for I'd heard the same thing about
a lot of musicians in my travels throughout the world......Then I heard him play
and immediately knew that his student had not been exagerating. These
recordings do not tell Bill's story, for he plays far above my rhythm sections
ability to play for him. I just tried my best to play the right changes as
he performed his magic. There's plenty he could have complained about, but
he never did. He was extremely complimentary to almost everyone he played
with, although I have heard him give a shot to somebody who deserved it.

(This was recorded with a
little cassette recorder sitting on a table close to the piano. It's not being
sold to anyone. It's just a simple record of an amazing musician whom I admire,
as much, for his humility, humor and self-deprecation. His amazing musical
abilities are far beyond my simple abilities to try and explain them, for he can
switch from reed to brass to keyboard to bass and play them WELL, and most
importantly, he will play with anybody....I forgot to mention that he sings,
too....Enough kissing up...just listen!
