REMEMBER- You won't
get that great Jazzy drum brush(41)sound
, Unless you have a module, soundcard, or daughterboard with that specific
Drumset included, as in SoundCanvas;etc. Edirol
is now making the comp-sound modules for Roland, and they're Dynamite-
Most of their new stuff is USB compatible, and they are all GS compatible
and the Super Sound Canvas is midi2 compatible. The Amazing SC-8850 is
a dream module with incredible samples. The newest Roland module
JV-1010 doesn't support GS, although it's a fine module.
If the drums sound funny - it's because your module doesn't have or doesn't
accept the brushes drumset. So change the part- or even better-
get a new module! A lot of the young drummers out there don't know about
brush technique or their proper usage. A lot of times you only hear them
on the latin cuts. Watch an experienced jazz drummer play with brushes.
It's an art! Practice your stick rudiments with a set of brushes and feel
the difference. Your stick technique will improve!

PLEASE REMEMBER (I don't mean to be preachy. but......) -When you click
on one of these files and listen to the result, you are listening
to The midifile (performance information-NO SOUND) forcing YOUR soundcard
or module to play. Usually, if the midifile sounds crappy to you it's
because YOUR equipment or whatever is crappy. The authors of most
of these sequences spend, literally, hours or days tweaking their files
to make them sound PERFECT. Then when they put them out on the
net, some dude with a couple of plastic hanging things on the sides of his
monitor and an acme fm special soundcard, says, "Hey man, this doesn't
sound that good". A-H-R-R-R-G-H-H! The sequence
is created, using GOOD samplers and software, and if you are going to be
involved in the business of midi sequencing, performing, or whatever, you
must have good equipment to duplicate the origional intent of the author.
The great thing about a midifile is you can change any aspect of the tune
quickly, with a keystroke (ie: tuning/coarse tuning,transposition,aftertouch,
velocities,etc). With the price of modules, computers
and memory decreasing, there really is NO excuse for having an acme-double-duty-fm
special for a soundcard. I actually heard one of my better
sequences played through a friends 386 and it sounded like an old PONG game.
Sucked bigtime. -It's like Stevie Wonder singing through
a 5$ microphone. Everything seems to be going towards
SoundCanvas,GM2,GS,XG. REASON: Standards-You can make
a sequence-send it to me-I can play it on my computer and it will sound,
basically as you intended it. YEA! Go with the flow. Crescendo
has a great SC soundset on their new player. GET A NEW
MODULE!!!! (*) Means No Melody |
